Treading Water: My Best for 2016

Happy Holidays Readers! I am so sorry that last month I did not have a blog post for November. For those of you who don’t know, I am a little bit on the crazy side, but in a good way, I own it. Last month was actually a little bit trying for me, but I’m back and my bad b*tch is in full effect again. I found this quote on Facebook and thought that this is going to be how I close out the year for Treading Water.

“Real change is inspired by one of two things: An awakening to new knowledge or by heartbreak.”- Somebody Wise.

This is the time of year where a lot of us decide what changes we are going to make in order to become a better version of ourselves for the upcoming year. The most common resolutions tend to be about changing our physical appearance, making better dietary choices, getting more money, quitting tobacco, etc… All of these resolutions are wonderful, but I believe only 10% of us actually stick with them. I think that we tend to fail due to various reasons, but I believe the main reason is that we don’t fix the root of the problem. For example, we want to lose weight and we go and buy new clothes, gym memberships, shoes, low calorie food, etc… but then end up gaining 25 more pounds by summer. We provided ourselves with the tools that we need, but we did not give ourselves the driving force we needed to use these tools to begin our goal. Why? Is it because I am lazy? Or maybe is it because I am depressed about something that I don’t want to address and this causes me to binge eat to numb a feeling that I cannot describe?

For myself, and if you want to try it out – go for it, I want to fix my roots now and in the coming year. I am tired of struggling with weight problems, depression, excess drinking, one night stands, excess spending, lack of motivation, smoking, falling in love with friends with “benefits”, loneliness, grief, feeling stuck, being victim to racism and misogyny in my gay community, and my list can go on for pages. This year, I’m going to take advantage of some therapy. A b*@!h is going to pay a professional this year to help a b*@!h fix these roots and address why things are the way they are.

I highly recommend therapy this year as a new year’s resolution for some of us. There is a lot of stigma around mental health, but the majority of people suffer from something mentally. A lot of us just don’t want to talk about it due to the stigma. This year I say, F*@K STIGMA, I’m going to do what it takes to fix my roots, then I can go fix everything else.
